MAP - Migrant Access Project

The Migrant Access Project (MAP) is a council led initiative that works to to bridge the gap between services and communities by equipping new and emerging communities across the city with the knowledge, skills, networks, and experience to cascade key messages with their communities in first languages.

The project achieves this by facilitating bespoke training, with help from key service partners, to share information about a range of support. The training is themed according to key priorities; work and money, health and wellbeing, education and language, advocacy and advice, community safety and belonging, and housing and environment. In addition to MAP training, the project shares opportunities for attendees to exercise their voice and influence on key services within the city through consultations.

The project aims:

To increase newer communities understanding of life in Leeds and access to services.

To improve local neighbourhoods and strengthen community relations.

To connect communities and services to build capacity and improve partnership working.

To increase community voice and influence (community engagement, service development, social cohesion approaches and civic participation).

An 8 week training programme (2.5 hours each week) is regularly delivered through the project to train new Migrant Community Networkers.
