Beacon Housing
What does the Service do?
Beacon provides supported accommodation for individuals who experience multiple disadvantage, including families. The service was launched in 2017 and is delivered by a consortium, including Turning Lives Around, Touchstone and Foundation. Each partner brings unique expertise and experience that enables us to effectively intervene to prevent homelessness for those at risk. This combined approach, which is designed to be trauma informed, ensures the optimum service for our clients. We also work closely with other agencies such as Forward Leeds and Engage, to ensure further support our clients.
What type of accommodation is provided?
Beacon provides three types of supported accommodation for our clients. We have self-contained flats, shared community accommodation and Intensive Support Environments (ISEs). All accommodation is furnished, and clients are provided with the basic living essentials.
In the ISEs clients receive 24/7 support from on-site staff. The rooms are lockable and furnished (including a fridge). Clients will cook for themselves in a shared kitchen and will also share a lounge and bathroom.
How many people do we support and for how long?
Beacon can accommodate around 240 people at any one time, and with a maximum length of stay between four and twelve months. Beacon supports over 100 people each year to move into independent living and more permanent accommodation, through private landlords, Leeds City Council and housing associations.
What support do we provide?
The support from Beacon includes tenancy training along with a range of services tailored to each client's individual needs, such as:
Self-care, health and wellbeing.
Budgetary and financial advice.
Peer mentoring.
Access to volunteering and educational opportunities.
Recovery support, including harm reduction and joint work with drug and alcohol agencies.
Managing statutory orders and risk.
How can I make a referral?
ACCESS TO BEACON IS VIA REFERRAL. REFERRALS TO BEACON WILL BE MADE FROM THE HOUSING OPTIONS TEAM WITHIN LEEDS CITY COUNCIL.

Emmaus Community
Emmaus communities provide a home and meaningful work to people who have experienced homelessness and social exclusion. Our communities are situated all across the UK.
Most offer between 20 and 40 places for people to live. Once someone joins an Emmaus community, they are known as an Emmaus companion.
Unlike a lot of provision for homeless people, Emmaus communities offer a home for as long as someone needs it. Emmaus companions get a room of their own, food, clothing and a small weekly allowance.
How to access:
If you are currently homeless, or if you know someone who could benefit from support from Emmaus, get in touch with your local community. They will be able to tell you if they have spaces available and if they are able to meet your individual needs.
To find your local Emmaus, please use this link: https://emmaus.org.uk/your-local-emmaus/?region=all

LRF - Women's Wellbeing Group
Our Women’s Wellbeing Group provides vital support to women from a range of backgrounds. We encourage service users to join our art therapy workshops, which bring women together to create handmade items.
The Women’s Wellbeing Group allows women to practise and develop their English language skills, make new friends, learn and share knowledge. The women who attend build trust knowing they have a safe space to go where they are never alone; they always have people around to support them.

MAP - Migrant Access Project
The Migrant Access Project (MAP) is a council led initiative that works to to bridge the gap between services and communities by equipping new and emerging communities across the city with the knowledge, skills, networks, and experience to cascade key messages with their communities in first languages.
The project achieves this by facilitating bespoke training, with help from key service partners, to share information about a range of support. The training is themed according to key priorities; work and money, health and wellbeing, education and language, advocacy and advice, community safety and belonging, and housing and environment. In addition to MAP training, the project shares opportunities for attendees to exercise their voice and influence on key services within the city through consultations.
The project aims:
To increase newer communities understanding of life in Leeds and access to services.
To improve local neighbourhoods and strengthen community relations.
To connect communities and services to build capacity and improve partnership working.
To increase community voice and influence (community engagement, service development, social cohesion approaches and civic participation).
An 8 week training programme (2.5 hours each week) is regularly delivered through the project to train new Migrant Community Networkers.
For more information on how to get involved, email: migrantaccessproject@leeds.gov.uk

Me & Ma: For Refugee and Asylum-Seeking Mums
Are you a mum going through the asylum process or living as a refugee in the UK?
Me & Ma is a community project made for you — for mums who may have struggled with their mental health during or after pregnancy.
We know how tough it can be. You might feel low, anxious, lonely, or unsure where to turn for help. That’s why we’ve created a safe, welcoming space online — to support you, share stories, and remind you that you’re not alone.
Through Instagram and TikTok, we share:
• Mental health tips from doctors and psychologists
• Stories and podcasts from other mums with similar journeys
• Fun and creative content like our Food Bank Cooking Challenge
• Simple guides to what mental health support looks like in the UK
We also want to hear from you. Later this year, we’re holding makeup and wellbeing workshop to understand what support you need and how we can make services better for you.
Follow us:
Instagram: @_me.and.ma
TikTok: @me_and_ma25
You are not alone. This is a space for support, understanding, and community — just for mums like you.

Support for Displaced Doctors - OET Preparation
The Phoenix Project provides 1-to-1 online (Teams/Zoom) OET teaching sessions, run by either clinical medical students or doctors for one hour each week. Each session focuses on one or more of the assessed core skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking), with tasks set weekly to complete outside of each session. In addition, the operations and culture of the NHS is discussed. We write our own resources, reflective of the OET standard and format, that are used initially in sessions, before using official OET resources when a participant is closer to taking their exam. Currently, we are in a trial period of being able to offer participants one OET mock test with SET English to help inform final exam preparation and booking. The Phoenix Project is able to provide part-financial sponsorship for the OET exam as per our financial policy at the time; currently this is 50% retrospectively of the exam passed.
Passing the OET exam or IELTS at 7.5 is essential to registering with the GMC.

PLAB-1:
The Phoenix Project is able to provide financial sponsorship for either a 1 year Passmedicine or a 5 month Plabable PLAB-1 question bank subscription.
PLAB-2:
The Phoenix Project provides 1-to-1 online (Teams/Zoom) PLAB-2 teaching sessions, run by either final year medical students or doctors for one hour each week. Our PLAB-2 sessions are run as clinical roleplays and important principles and features of NHS practice are also discussed. Resources written by our PLAB-2 teachers are mainly used during sessions, alongside other appropriate resources. Unfortunately we are not able to provide in person clinical skills support at the moment, but this is something we hope to be able to provide in the future. The Phoenix Project is able to provide part-financial sponsorship for the OET exam as per our financial policy at the time; currently this is 50% retrospectively of the exam passed.
