Stockport Volunteer Hub
We work with voluntary & community organisations in Stockport to offer a platform of diverse volunteering opportunities; that enable individuals to discover their passions, explore their potential, and develop valuable skills.
Stride Partnership CIC
Stride Partnership is a Community Interest Company (CIC) that provides accommodation and basic reintegration support services to refugees within the North West of England, predominantly focussing on the Greater Manchester region and Lancashire.
We primarily tailor our training and events to refugees that have intentions of gaining a tenancy within the UK. Further to this, we provide educational events on budgeting and on integrating in diverse communities.
- Housing - To provide accommodation to newly granted refugees who might otherwise struggle.
- Support - Providing a short to medium term support network as a refugee acclimatises to their new environment.
- Integration - Making use of services to help the refugee integrate into the local community as naturally as possible.
- Partnerships - Working with other refugee and migrant services that can provide support when requested.
St Thomas and St Lukes Church
St Thomas’ and St Luke’s work alongside several other local churches to support asylum seekers and refugees who are based in our town. This ministry is an important way in which we can show God’s love to people who have had to leave their homes and face very tough situations. Our ministry to support asylums seekers includes:
- Language classes. On Thursday afternoons at 3:00 pm we provide weekly English classes for those who want to come along and improve their English language skills. The classes take place in St Thomas’ church hall.
- Social. At 1 pm on Sundays, we provide a drop-in for those who want to come along for a drink and a chat or to play games. These socials take place in St Thomas’ church hall.
- Discipleship Group. There is a WhatsApp Group where Farsi speaking Christians can encourage each other in their faith and pray for each other. There is also a bible study in Farsi on a Friday morning, details of which are shared on WhatsApp. Please contact Sue Thomas (07877704645) to be added into this group. Each third Sunday of the month there is a service in St Thomas in Farsi at 4pm.
- Compass meets at Emma and Antony Billington’s home each Monday from 3pm until 5pm. Come for a drink and a chat or to use the wi-fi. We are happy to help with making phone calls, writing letters and emails, and sorting any problems online. St Vincent's Centre Leeds
Part of St Vincent de Paul Society (England and Wales), we offer a range of activities and support including classes, groups, counselling, debt advice and a large inclusive volunteering programme. We want everyone regardless of who they are to feel that they belong in the community and have the opportunity to thrive. We Are Survivors is a survivor focused voluntary sector organisation that aims to create and facilitate safe spaces for male (including trans and non-binary individuals) survivors of sexual abuse, rape and sexual exploitation across Greater Manchester providing to access quality assured support.
Our work is focused on developing ways for individuals to empower themselves to work through personal and sometimes painful issues, guided and supported by our trauma-informed team, following the trauma and recovery model.
SWAP Leigh
Support for Wigan Arrivals Project supports asylum seekers and refugees.
SWAP provide practical hands on support through a range of services, including 1:1 advocacy and case work, educational and support groups.

SWAP Wigan

Tameside Borough Council

The Broughton Trust
The Trust provides adult learning, youth work, employment support and community development across the city. Most of its employees and volunteers live within an 8-mile radius of the organisation.
We provide a pathway into meaningful employment for the unqualified, unskilled and inexperienced, particularly in fields such as construction, hospitality and personal services.
We contact some of the most difficult to track and place young adults (the ‘invisible’) who are on no-one’s register, who claim no benefits and who live outside the system.

The Care Rights Project
The Care Rights Project is committed to promoting and protecting the rights of vulnerable migrants with care needs.
More generally, the Care Rights Project aims to raise awareness of the rights of people with NRPF (no recourse of public funds), both in the community and within local authority offices. As well as providing free advice and advocacy to individuals; we want to contribute to a wider body of knowledge and experience, working collaboratively with other organisations in the same space.
The Destitution Project
DP aims to provide a safe environment for asylum seekers and refugees where they can find friendship, food and practical help.
Asylum seekers, destitute/refused asylum seekers and refugees are welcome to visit the Drop-In for tea and coffee, a hot cooked meal, free clothes and bedding as well as games for children, english lessons and arts and crafts.
Everything we offer is FREE for our service users, however, first priority is given to refused asylum seekers (with no recourse to public funds), asylum seekers and then refugees.
We also provide casework support for asylum seekers and refused asylum seekers who live in Bolton. Please note that, based on our Charity’s registration, we are not able to provide casework help to anyone living outside of Bolton or anyone who is an EU citizen or a British passport holder.
The Haven
The Haven is a specialist primary healthcare service for asylum seekers and refugees who are new to Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire. Our team of staff consists of a GP and nurses who will assess and meet the initial health needs of asylum seekers and new refugees. We also help people to access health services and other services they need.
The Hope Service
The Hope service supports asylum seekers, refugees and victims of trafficking in two ways. We have a therapy pathways for people who have experienced trauma in adulthood (although may also have experienced childhood trauma) and have a primary diagnosis of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
The people we support have often experienced multiple traumas in their home country and on their journey to the UK. They may face other practical challenges, for example unstable housing, poverty and discrimination.
The care pathway within the service involves Moving On After Trauma (MOAT) groups and one-to-one specialist trauma-focused psychological therapy, alongside more general casework. The section below outlines our trauma treatment pathway:
Moving on After Trauma Group (MOAT): A 6 week group to help people understand how trauma affects them. We teach people skills to manage their symptoms and help them feel better. For example, to sleep better, to feel more relaxed and to have fewer flashbacks.
1:1 Trauma Therapy: After the MOAT group, people can have one-to-one therapy sessions with a therapist. We help people manage their difficulties and help process their trauma memories. We always use interpreters if people need them.
All our work is confidential and we work both in the community and in NHS buildings.
The second way in which we support people is though more community based support – this includes providing wellbeing initiatives, such as community groups to support people to improve sleep and art groups and we work across the IA hotels in the region offering advice and support to all residents. Community based support is delivered by our recovery coordinators, working with voluntary sector partners where possible. We are also working towards opening a Memorial Garden in the centre of Bristol to create a reflective space for the community more widely.
We work closely with Bristol Refugee Rights, SARI, Borderlands, Bristol Mind and Unseen to ensure our service users receive specialist support across their different needs.

The Hub Altrincham
The Hub is a partnership between Trafford Council and Altrincham Baptist Church, providing a community space for Trafford residents. This is a place to connect with others and make friendships as well as a place to learn, to be supported, and 'to be part of something.'
From tiny tots to seniors, and everyone in between, we have a whole host of groups and activities on offer inside our doors.
You can access a range of support services via The Hub. From Citizen's Advice, to language courses or simply a listening ear, if we can't meet your needs here at The Hub we will do our best to find someone who can.
The Oasis Centre
The Oasis centre offers support to address the needs of people in crisis situations.
We have four interlinked projects focusing on different areas of support required through a period of crisis.
Re-build
Our Re-build project offers emergency provisions such as food and clothing, a cafe which is open four days a week offering hot nutritious food, and our own dedicated crisis support team who can signpost to relevant agencies and support with the root cause of the emergency such as debt or mental health difficulties.
Re-engage
Through our re-engage project we help everybody to feel like part of the community. We offer wellbeing support activities such as trips and social days, leisure activities such as board games, quizzes and workshops. In addition our community support team are on hand to help with the process of re-engagement.
Re-skill
Through our Re-skill programme, we provide a relaxed and encouraging setting to learn and practice. Clients are given the opportunity to develop the pre-requisite skills necessary for a functional lifestyle and successful employment. We introduce them to literacy, numeracy, home economics and art in a creative and non-threatening way. This one year programme includes: Urban Art; Cookery Workshop; English For Everyone; Maths Made Easy and Science workshops.

University of London Refugee Law Clinic
The University of London’s Refugee Law Clinic is an innovative project providing pro bono legal advice for refugee clients. Our work provides some of the most disadvantaged communities in London with access to fair and equal legal representation, a basic human right which many asylum seekers in the UK struggle to find.
The clinic is supported by the Central University and by 10 of the University’s Member Institutions. It is based on a model of Clinical Legal Education for the University’s diverse student body and facilitates practical experience for students working on real cases under the supervision of a qualified expert lawyer. Delivered in partnership with two law firms, the Refugee Law Clinic also provides the opportunity for lawyers to undertake pro bono work within the clinic.
Unseen
Supporting survivors of modern slavery and human trafficking. We work alongside survivors to identify their needs and assist them with their recovery. This includes support to access legal and immigration advice, physical and mental health care, accommodation and education. In order to access our services, survivors first need to be referred into the National Referral Mechanism by a First Responder. First responders include statutory agencies such as the police, local authorities, the Gangmasters Licensing Authority and some designated charities, including Unseen. Breast feeding support - Our BOOBS approved venues, breastfeeding cafes, specialist antenatal classes and 1:1 peer support helps mums to achieve their breastfeeding goals - whether for one week, 6 months or 2 years and beyond.

If you are suffering from depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, excessive worry or low mood, then NHS Talking Therapies can help. Vita Health Group provides the local Talking Therapies services on behalf of the NHS to adults 16-years and over, who live and are registered with a GP in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire. Free Drop-In Service: We now run in person drop-ins across BNSSG where you can come and talk to one of our friendly team about our services, and have a supported referral if needed. Wai Yin Society
Wai Yin Society has been supporting, empowering and working in partnership with Chinese individuals and families for more than 30 years. Founded in 1988 by a group of community-minded Chinese women.
We have developed a range of employment, education and community services for Chinese men and women and for other ethnic minority groups, including Somali, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Indian and many European nationalities.
We currently have three bases in Manchester:
- Swan Street Headquarters - which provides services for children, young people and families, and also hosts our Learning Centre, which caters for about 70% Chinese learners and 30% other BME learners;
- Sheung Lok Centre - which provides the services for older Chinese people and for older Somali women.
- The Welcome Centre - which provides English Classes, IT classes, Work Club, Welfare Advice, free Lunches and Food parcels distribution to the most in need, gardening classes to grow your own food, arts and craft classes, and job search support to the local residents in Cheetham Hill and Crumpsall areas.
Warm Hut
The charity was established in 2009 to support French speaking asylum seekers and refugees living in the Greater Manchester.
We run community activities that are preventative as well as early intervention which allow the community to make informed choices and improve their quality of life.
Most of our activities aim to alleviate isolation and depression, including emotional wellbeing, social, physical and recreational activities.
Examples of our work include:
- Securing permanent accommodation

We Belong
We Belong is a migrant youth-led organisation, campaigning for the rights of young migrants, developing young leaders by providing advice, support and training. West African Development (WAD)
At WAD we work with the disadvantaged families, people from different backgrounds and minority ethnic groups to break social barriers improve the quality of life and raise people’s self-esteem.
We do this by organising meetings and activities such like cultural events, dancing and drumming, sporting and arts activities for all. WAD also provides information on training, health and social care, crime reduction, employment, benefit advice and volunteering opportunities.

Women Asylum Seekers Together (WAST)
Women Asylum Seekers Together (WAST) is a charity and grassroots network based in Manchester.
The women in our network speak many languages and practice many religions. We are women of all ages, nationalities, ethnicities, sexual orientation and disabilities. Some of us have children and spouses or partners with us, others face our families being split up by deportation. Many of us are alone.
We use a peer-support model to help women who seek sanctuary in Manchester. Through practical advice and wellbeing activities, we support women through the asylum system. We campaign locally and nationally with our sister organisations and allies to improve the system and ensure women’s rights are upheld.
Wonderfully Made Women
Wonderfully Made Woman provide services for women and girls across Greater Manchester: married, single, single mother, separated, divorced, or widow.
Our charity is set up to help women and girls get back their confidence in every area of their lives, and make them value themselves.
We offer a variety of services such as confidence building workshops, domestic abuse support groups, heritage projects and many skill training workshops in beads making, make-up classes, cooking, hair making, and digital literacy.
Wood Street Mission
Wood Street Mission is a children’s charity helping children and families living on a low income in Manchester and Salford.
We offer practical help to help meet children’s day-to-day needs and improve their life chances. We provide struggling families with children’s clothes, bedding and baby equipment, and toys and books which are important for children’s wellbeing and development.
We promote engagement in education by helping families with the costs of going to school and run holiday book clubs to promote reading and improve children’s literacy. We also provide toys for children to have presents on Christmas Day.
We also raise awareness about child poverty through our communications, holding events and giving talks at schools, businesses and groups.

Working Wardrobe
Working Wardrobe is a personal styling service which gives people the outfit and confidence they need to get the job that they deserve.
Clients will work with a personal stylist to choose clothing, shoes and accessories for their interview, as well as receiving advice from our team of employment specialists who will help with 1-2-1 interview preparation. The clothing is theirs to keep, at no cost to them.
Work Rights Centre (WoRC)
We are a charity dedicated to helping migrants and disadvantaged Britons access employment justice and improve their social mobility.
Created by migrants, for migrants and racially disadvantaged Britons, our founding volunteers wanted to address the lack of information and support for people who are having to navigate the complex intersection of precarious work and immigration insecurity.
Yaran Northwest
Yaran Northwest was established as a not-for-profit organisation to provide a variety of counselling advocacy, recovery and wellbeing services to meet the needs of vulnerable adults, new immigrants, families and couples in Greater Manchester.
Psychological service - provides one-to-one and group counselling/psychotherapy for middle eastern, in particular Farsi, Dari, Arabic, Turkish, Kurdish and Urdu speaking residents, across Greater Manchester including new immigrants, families and couples who need urgent help and support in health and well-being.
The Advocacy service - assist people from Middle Eastern background and covers improving their confidence, developing their basic skills in learning English, understanding the world of work, and guidance in seeking jobs.
Workshops, community-based programmes and professionally led
self-help groups - are for those in the community experiencing mild to moderate mental health issues alongside a spectrum of life issues too.
YES Manchester
Yes is an award winning Charity established over 10 years ago to help Manchester residents to access employment, volunteering and learning opportunities, improve their digital skills, and achieve their ambitions.
We offer free access to more than 50 internet enabled workstations where our customers can apply for work, develop their skills and receive coaching and mentoring in the use of digital equipment from our volunteer ‘Digital Champions’.
We help our customers to build CVs, search for jobs and complete applications, as well as referring them to long-standing partners to get help with debt, health, relationship issues. We also refer customers to training providers so clients can access skills training.

To apply for help from National Zakat Foundation you must have your own email address, mobile phone number and a device able to connect to the internet.
Hardship Relief Fund - provides cash grants towards monthly expenses, such as food and clothing, to help vulnerable Muslims in the UK who are unable to pay for basic living costs.
Housing - This fund offers grants to help Muslims in the UK who need support to live in affordable, liveable and safe accommodation.
Work and Education - This fund offers grants to help Muslims in the UK who are unemployed or on low incomes to get a job and increase their incomes.
Z-Arts
Z-arts is the UK’s only arts centre dedicated to offering best-practice in creative provision for children and families.
We engage with tens of thousands of people annually in outreach programmes with local communities, schools and college groups, international touring theatre shows and with superb on-site facilities including: 230-seat theatre, studio theatre, gallery, cafe bar, recording studio, music space & dance studio.
