Community Support Partners

Last updated 26/11/24

To compliment the excellent therapy that we provide at VitaMinds and to better serve the community we work in, we have partnered with several outstanding providers who offer a range of alternative therapeutic experiences that could support you when you need it the most.

Read more below City Farms The City Farms in Bristol have partnered with VitaMinds to provide some supplementary support for our patients. By referring to the City Farms, patients can benefit from taking part in outdoors activity, building their confidence and self-esteem in a safe and constructive environment. They don’t have to have any interest in farms, gardening, or animals, just a willingness to give it a go. Whilst there are a variety of courses on offer, they are all suitable for a client who is feeling a bit low and is keen to socialise again.

There are currently three farms available across the Bristol area, open to anyone across BNSSG. Bluebell Bluebell provide support to help families manage their mental health and wellbeing during pregnancy and after birth. They provide a range of different services through VitaMinds for Mums and Dads with during pregnancy or up to 2 years after birth.

Doctors of the World

Doctors of the World

Last updated 03/04/25

Doctors of the World is a charity that provides healthcare services to vulnerable people in the UK, including migrants, refugees, and those without access to health services. They aim to ensure that everyone can receive medical care, regardless of their immigration status.

The organisation works with individuals who may face barriers to accessing healthcare, such as language difficulties or fear of deportation. They operate clinics in various locations, offering services like medical consultations, mental health support, and vaccinations. For example, they might provide a free health check to a refugee who has recently arrived in the UK.

Doctors of the World cannot help people who are already registered with a GP unless there are very particular circumstances.

Doulas Without Borders

Last updated 03/04/25

At Doulas Without Borders, our UK-wide network of voluntary doulas provides women and birthing people who have experienced trauma and are in financial hardship with the companionship, physical, emotional and educational support needed during pregnancy, birth and early parenthood.

Doulas do not offer medical advice or apply clinical measures, but do offer a wealth of knowledge about birth. We help people to have a positive experience by providing information, support, and encouragement—without judgment.

We accept referrals on behalf of people from 6 months of pregnancy or within the first 6 weeks of the postnatal period, who are in isolation, or unsupported, in disadvantage and in financial hardship.

Emmaus Community

Last updated 24/02/25

Emmaus communities provide a home and meaningful work to people who have experienced homelessness and social exclusion. Our communities are situated all across the UK.

Most offer between 20 and 40 places for people to live. Once someone joins an Emmaus community, they are known as an Emmaus companion.

Unlike a lot of provision for homeless people, Emmaus communities offer a home for as long as someone needs it. Emmaus companions get a room of their own, food, clothing and a small weekly allowance.

How to access:

If you are currently homeless, or if you know someone who could benefit from support from Emmaus, get in touch with your local community. They will be able to tell you if they have spaces available and if they are able to meet your individual needs.

To find your local Emmaus, please use this link: https://emmaus.org.uk/your-local-emmaus/?region=all

The service is run by volunteers and provides English language and life skills support to registered members subject to availability. The lessons focus on teaching practical language skills that women can use in their daily lives, for example going to the doctors, shopping or applying for jobs. English language and life skills support continues to be a primary activity at our weekly drop-in. We can help with pre-entry, Entry 1, Entry 2, entry 2/3 and entry 3.

To access our ESOL classes, an ESOL assessment will need to be carried out by us or any of our BRASP partners.

As a compliment to the work undertaken in ESOL classes, we also provide 1:1 reading and conversations classes in order to enhance confidence-building in spoken/written English.

Our services are available to registered members* only and take place in our weekly Tuesdays, term-time only drop-in centre. All pre-school children are welcome.

GM Migrant Destitution Fund

GM Migrant Destitution Fund

Last updated 09/06/25

The GM Migrant Destitution Fund (MDF) provides cash grants for people forced into destitution by their immigration status. Denied access to any kind of safety net, and, in many cases, not allowed to work, these are some of the most vulnerable people in our society. By providing cash, with no strings attached, we seek to restore a degree of dignity.

Service includes:

• You can apply for up to £80 per month per adult and £50 for any child in the household.

• There is no limit on how many times people can access the fund, as we recognise that escaping destitution can be a difficult and time-consuming process.

We operate a 'fund-plus' model. Beyond our grants programme, we also:

• Signpost where possible for additional support and pathways out of destitution

• Develop partnership working between frontline organisations across GM

• Advocate for change to build towards a society where no one is made destitute because of where they come from.

How to apply:

You can apply to the fund through one of our referral partners. You cannot apply directly to the fund. If you are already connected with one of those organisations, ask someone there to refer you to the fund.

If you are not already connected with one of these organisations, write to us at info@migrantdestitution.co.uk, telling us where in Greater Manchester you are living, and we will signpost you to the most suitable organisation that can help you apply to the fund.
