Metropolitan Congregation (MCC) - LGBTQI+ Support
We are a Christ-centred congregation which serves, celebrates and affirms the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (lgbt) communities of Manchester and North West England.
All are welcome.
Our services are celebrative yet thoughtful and aim to appeal to folk from a range of different church backgrounds as well as to those for whom spirituality is new.
We offer a place to explore Christian spirituality and help people live the Christian faith in ways which make sense in our contemporary society.
We are a friendly church and after worship - which usually lasts around one hour - everyone is invited to stay for refreshments and a chat.
For many years our congregation was part of the Metropolitan Community Church (MCC) - an American-based lgbt denomination, but we are now one of the two worshipping congregations of Wilbraham St Ninian's United Reformed Church.
How to access
We meet in Chorlton, about 4 miles south of Manchester city centre, we are easily accessible by Metrolink and bus services, and we offer a warm welcome to all our services and events.

Mustard Tree - Freedom Project and Courses
Mustard Tree’s Freedom Project is a life skills and work readiness program aimed at helping people who’ve had more barriers than usual to moving on in life and achieving independence: barriers such as homelessness, mental health issues, addiction recovery or a criminal record.
The overall goal of the project is to equip participants with the sort of skills and experience that will improve their likelihood of future employment and (arguably more importantly) give them a sense of belonging to a community.
With that in mind, participants work within Mustard Tree and learn about the key areas of our operation, from customer services and office admin, to catering and waste recycling.

Oldham Bethel Church
If English is not your first language and you want to improve your English speaking, reading and writing skills our English Classes are the place for you. Our classes are open to anyone who wants to improve their English speaking and listening skills as well as enhance their reading and writing abilities. We have no minimum language requirement and cater for a range of abilities.
We run two classes simultaneously: a beginners and an intermediate class. All lessons are delivered by warm and friendly staff who are keen to help you learn.
Classes run every Wednesday from 10am-12pm at Oldham Bethel Church. We usually begin with tea and coffee in order to get to know one another better. This means you learn English in a classroom setting as well as having the opportunity to put your speaking skills into practice by talking with native English-speakers.
On the first Saturday of the month we run a food club. Membership is £3 for the year and then £2 each session for a varied bag of food

Positive Action in Housing - Room for Refugees
Room for Refugees is a discreet and confidential hosting network providing safe matching of refugees and asylum seekers with households across the UK.
The hosting process gives an invaluable opportunity for refugee support agencies to work on cases and stabilise clients so that they are able to re-access public funds or even resolve their case so that the right to live in the UK is granted to them.
We also work with social workers from local authorities seeking loving homes for Unaccompanied Asylum Seeker Children.
Our online system – REFER – lets caseworkers from refugee and migrant support organisations quickly find suitable hosts for their clients. For more information about this process, please view our website.
How to access:
Apply for an online caseworker account using the link at the bottom of the page - https://www.roomforrefugees.com/caseworker-account
Once the account is approved, usually within a day or so, read all the guidance and make your first referral. (For especially urgent vulnerable cases, email home@positiveactionh.org first to say you need an account quickly). We will then assess the referral and search for suitable hosts.

Positive Cycles - Oldham
We take old bikes, clean them up and then our volunteers and groups of young people fix them, gaining AQA qualifications in the process. The newly-refurbished bikes are then donated to local families, used in conjunction with the Transport for Greater Manchester or sold with all profits being churned directly back into the Positive Cycles project to buy better equipment and parts.
The workshop is also used by the Oldham Youth Justice Service as part of the unpaid community work of young offenders. The young people are involved in cleaning and fixing donated bikes and making sure they are roadworthy and ready to be resold. In doing this they gain valuable experience and qualifications. We also offer AQA-accredited Bike Maintenance courses to individuals and groups.

Pride Without Borders
Pride Without Borders is our support group for Bristol-based LGBTQ+ people seeking asylum and those with refugee status. We meet every 2 weeks and spend time together. We support and listen to each other and enjoy celebrating our identities and cultures together. We sometimes go to fun nights out and events.
We aim to connect with Bristol’s great LGBTQ+ community. The manager and our great team of volunteers can give you support and advice so you can stay safe and get what you need. This includes help understanding the asylum system, accessing housing and finance, supporting you if your housing is not safe or you are at risk of homelessness.
LGBTQ+ people aged 13 to 25 could join another group called Freedom Youth. You don’t have to be an asylum seeker or refugee.

The Haven is a specialist primary healthcare service for asylum seekers and refugees who are new to Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire. Our team of staff consists of a GP and nurses who will assess and meet the initial health needs of asylum seekers and new refugees. We also help people to access health services and other services they need.
The Haven can offer:
Help for people to register with a local GP practice
Information about how to use the NHS
Comprehensive and holistic health assessments
Medical management of current health problems

We regularly work with people who have experienced traumatic events. We have pathways and can sign-post to other helpful services such as counselling and refugee support organisations. Our appointments are long enough to give us time to respond to complex needs. We are able to work with people over several appointments according to their individual needs before discharging them to the care of a GP practice.

Refugee Council - Infoline
Infoline is an England-wide signposting, information and casework service. The service works with people seeking asylum who are experiencing, or at risk of, crisis and destitution.
The Infoline connects people seeking asylum, and those who have received a decision on an asylum claim and are still in asylum support accommodation, with relevant information and services in order to avoid or reduce crisis and destitution.
Signposting is provided by trained volunteers, who are supervised by experienced advisors. Our advisors provide a limited advice, short-term advocacy and casework service. Referrals for casework depend on criteria and capacity, and are reviewed weekly.
Who can use the Infoline?
- Adults seeking asylum in England: including people who have not yet submitted an asylum claim, people with an active asylum claim, and people who have received a refusal on an asylum claim and who are unable to return to their country of origin.
- Adults who have been recognised as refugees (or have received Humanitarian Protection) in England and are still living in asylum support accommodation.
What types of enquiries can we help with?
We accept enquiries from people in England relating to:
- avoiding or reducing crisis
- overcoming destitution: accessing essential financial support, finding somewhere safe to stay, accessing essential food and clothes
- where to go for support if you are worried about being sent to Rwanda
- how to access immigration advice and what to do in a crisis
- navigating the asylum support system, including for people not accessing support, and for people in hotels (initial and contingency accommodation)
- what to do if asked to leave asylum support accommodation
- accessing healthcare
- understanding rights and entitlements.

Refugee Lodging Scheme
Our aim is to develop supported lodgings for refugees in Bristol where Refugee Welcome Homes provide ongoing support and signposting for both the person who offers the room (we refer to this person as the landlord) and refugee lodger. RWH introduce potential refugee lodgers and landlords to each other, providing both the lodger and the landlord with "light touch" support for the period of between 12-18 months.

Refugee Resettlement Service
Using Home Office funding, B&NES Council commission Julian House to resettle people with ‘refugee’ status through the Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme (VPRS). The scheme exists to enable the resettlement of those who have been identified by the United Nations as being the most vulnerable people fleeing persecution, violence, and life-threatening challenges in their countries of origin. We work mostly with families, many of whom have significant medical conditions and/or who have survived torture. The project supports and empowers families to rebuild their lives, move forwards from trauma, and live happily and independently in the UK. We work closely in partnership with local charity Bath Welcomes Refugees amongst other local, regional and national organisation.
