GM Migrant Destitution Fund
The GM Migrant Destitution Fund (MDF) provides cash grants for people forced into destitution by their immigration status. Denied access to any kind of safety net, and, in many cases, not allowed to work, these are some of the most vulnerable people in our society. By providing cash, with no strings attached, we seek to restore a degree of dignity.
Service includes:
• You can apply for up to £80 per month per adult and £50 for any child in the household.
• There is no limit on how many times people can access the fund, as we recognise that escaping destitution can be a difficult and time-consuming process.
We operate a 'fund-plus' model. Beyond our grants programme, we also:
• Signpost where possible for additional support and pathways out of destitution
• Develop partnership working between frontline organisations across GM
• Advocate for change to build towards a society where no one is made destitute because of where they come from.
How to apply:
You can apply to the fund through one of our referral partners. You cannot apply directly to the fund. If you are already connected with one of those organisations, ask someone there to refer you to the fund.
If you are not already connected with one of these organisations, write to us at info@migrantdestitution.co.uk, telling us where in Greater Manchester you are living, and we will signpost you to the most suitable organisation that can help you apply to the fund.

Home-Start is a charity that supports families with at least one child under the age of five years old, who may be facing challenges in their lives.
They work with parents who may be struggling due to issues like isolation, mental health difficulties, or financial problems. The service provides trained volunteers who visit families in their homes to offer emotional support, practical help, and guidance.
Home-Start aims to empower parents, helping them build confidence and develop parenting skills. For example, volunteers might assist with daily tasks, such as meal preparation or organising activities for children, and provide a listening ear for parents needing someone to talk to.

Manchester Adult Education Service - MAES
The Manchester Adult Education Service offers ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) courses designed to help non-native speakers improve their English skills. These courses are aimed at adults from diverse backgrounds, including migrants, refugees, and anyone looking to enhance their language abilities for work or everyday life.
The ESOL courses focus on key language skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. For example, learners can participate in classes that help them communicate effectively in various situations, such as at work, school, or during social interactions.
In addition to language instruction, the Manchester Adult Education Service provides information about further education, job training, and other community resources. This holistic approach helps learners not only improve their English but also gain confidence and skills for a better future in the UK.
